Latvia lifts several advertising restrictions on MTG

The Competition Council in Latvia has decided to change several binding rules formerly imposed on broadcaster MTG Broadcasting AB (MTG), allowing the company to change cooperation terms in regard to the placement of classic advertisements by its clients.

The Competition Council informed LETA that after receiving an application from MTG (the owner of TV3 and LNT televisions), and analyzing the current market situation, the Council decided to change several binding rules that were imposed on the company in 2012 after it purchased LNT television.

Hereafter, MTG will not be prohibited to change cooperation terms, including prices, with classic advertising service recipients.

"If platforms, which are offering advertising services, are allowed to adjust their prices to the market situation, they will also be able to produce high quality content. Thus, these changes will have a positive impact on end users, users of various media content," the Competition Council stresses.

At the same time, the Competition Council urges media agencies and other market players who cooperate with MTG on a daily basis to turn to the Competition Council in case of violations.
