Kremlin-minded Italian journalist violating Estonian entrance ban detained

Kremlin-minded Italian journalist and former European Parliament Member Giulietto Chiesa was detained in Tallinn Monday afternoon, as an entry ban has been enforced against him in Estonia, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

The man was detained in a hotel and was taken for questioning to the police station.


Police and Border Guard Board spokeswoman Tuuli Härson told ERR news portal that is currently being investigated how and when he arrived in Estonia.

 

ERR news portal has information that NGO Impressum invited Giulietto Chiesa to speak at a meeting "Should Europe fear Russia" on 15 December in Tallinn.

 

According to foreign media, Chiesa is a journalist and politician, and a former member of the European Parliament (2004-2009). Prior to 1991, he was a member of the Italian Communist Party and worked for over twenty years in Moscow as special correspondent of newspapers La Stampa and l'Unit
