BC, Riga, 09.02.2010.Print version
In the framework of the International Tourism Fair, Balttour 2010, LIVE RIGA organised a round table discussion for entrepreneurs and institutions from various sectors. The subject of the discussion: “LIVE RIGA Partnership – An Opportunity to Create Innovative Tourism Products.” The Latvian National Opera House, the European Capital of Culture Board, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, JSC Aldaris and JSC Dzintars, as well as many other representatives of the tourism and related sectors participated in the discussion with their visions of promoting tourism.

“In the framework of the discussion, the existing and potential partners of LIVE RIGA proposed a number of progressive initiatives for promoting tourism. The main conclusion: The tourism sector needs bright ideas and has to be willing to be open for intersectoral cooperation. LIVE RIGA encourages and supports all creative ideas which increase the variety and quality of the tourism Riga’s has to offer,” points out Antra Laumane, the chairwoman of the discussion and representative of the Riga Tourism Development Bureau (RTDB).

“Having assessed the opportunities for cooperation between culture and tourism sectors, we are currently working on upcoming tourism-oriented cultural events. Cultural organisations in this field have an opportunity for good cooperation with LIVE RIGA. At the moment, we are coordinating with institutions under the supervision of the ministry, in order jointly to develop a package of measures which would be interesting to foreign tourists when they visit Latvia”, said Ints Dālderis, the Minister of Culture, at the discussion.

During the discussion, the Aldaris enterprise announced a competition for tourism operators to organise excursions to Aldaris. The tourism sector enterprises are invited to put forth ideas for regular excursions to the brewery.

During the round table discussion organised by LIVE RIGA, the following representatives presented their vision for the promotion of tourism:

  • Diāna Čivle, Head of the European Capital of Culture Board,
  • Aiva Rozenberga, Programme Coordinator of the European Capital of Culture Board,
  • Selga Laizāne, Executive Director of the Latvian National Opera House,
  • Laura Veličko, Head of the Marketing and Advertising Department of JSC Dzintars,
  • Daina Šnikvalde, Head of the Staff Relations Unit of JSC Aldaris.

LIVE RIGA is implementing a unique partnership programme in the Latvian tourism sector. It joins several hundreds of public and private sector organisations. Within the framework of the partnership programme, any enterprise has an opportunity to create an attractive tourism product and offer it to the guests of the city. Enterprises and institutions participating in the LIVE RIGA partnership programme are supporting the promotion of Riga abroad. Up to now, more than 300 potential partners have contacted LIVE RIGA. The status of a partner envisages the use of the LIVE RIGA quality brand on the premises, building and/or marketing materials of the enterprise. This quality brand serves as a symbol that the respective partner is a reliable entrepreneur offering high quality services.

Certificates confirming the status of a partner have been issued to 104 enterprises, institutions and non-governmental organisations (please see the list of certified persons in the attachment). Several hotels, restaurants, cultural and entertainment establishments have already used the LIVE RIGA quality brand. 30 applications of potential partners are currently being examined. The decision to grant partner status is made by the RTAB`s Consultative Council.
