Estonian government appoints Lavly Perling as new Prosecutor General

The Estonian government appointed on Thursday, at the proposal of Justice Minister, Lavly Perling as Estonia's new Prosecutor General, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

Perling will start working as Prosecutor General on Friday and her term of office lasts till October 30, 2019.

 

Justice Minister Andres Anvelt said, when he first proposed Perling's candidacy, that Perling's experiences and outstanding work in the Prosecutor's Office and her clear vision of the role and future of the Prosecutor's Office spoke in her favour. Anvelt said that Perling is an experienced and renowned lawyer and her strength is expertise in the field of criminal procedure.

 

Perling (39) has graduated from Tartu University law department and studied there also organisational behaviour. She started working in the Prosecutor's Office in 1996 as assistant prosecutor's candidate. In 1998 she became a prosecutor focusing on drug-related crimes. Perling worked as leading prosecutor in Viru (2004-2005) and Põhja (2005-2007) District Prosecutor's Offices and since 2007, she was State Prosecutor's Office prosecution department's leading state prosecutor.

 

The previous Prosecutor General Norman Aas became Justice Ministry chancellor at the beginning of September.
