Lithuanian MFA and US Department of State discuss cooperation, security policy

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Andrius Krivas on 28 October in Vilnius met with the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Brent Hartley, reports BC the MFA.

At the meeting, the officials welcomed the strengthening of bilateral ties, noted to the importance of their dynamics and visibility of the United States of America in our region. The deputy minister called on the US to continue to be Lithuania's active ally for addressing energy and economic security issues.

 

The US were also requested to actively contribute to the implementation of decisions taken at the NATO Summit in Wales with regard to taking measures of collective-defence in Lithuania.

 

Krivas highlighted Lithuania's principled position on the necessity to consistently apply sanctions against Russia for its aggression against Ukraine and called on the U.S. to maintain its leadership in this regard.

 

The high-ranking official of the U.S. Department of State also met with the minister of national defence, representatives of the office of the president, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defence and media.
