“Greens” agree to take charge of economy, health ministries in Latvia

The Greens and Farmers' Union board in Latvia decided yesterday to also take charge of the economy and health ministries, as the Greens/Farmers' patliamentary chairman, Augusts Brigmanis, told LETA.

The party will also be in charge of the defense, welfare, and agriculture ministries. Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma (Unity) has approved this, Brigmanis added.

 

Greens/Farmers have agreed to be part of a Straujuma-led government, and have nominated Raimonds Vejonis for defense minister, Uldis Augulis for welfare minister, Dana Reizniece-Ozola for the economy, Guntis Belevics for health, Janis Duklavs for agriculture, and Edgars Tavars as parliamentary secretary at the Environmental Protection/Regional Development Ministry.

 

Gundars Daudze is to be nominated for a seat on the Saeima Presidium as deputy speaker.

 

As reported, Latvian President Andris Berzins has demanded coalition partners reach an agreement in regard to the distribution of the new government's portfolios by Wednesday, October 29.
