BC, Vilnius, 14.10.2014.Print version
Lithuania's possibilities of increasing the number of troops will depend on the national defence funding, said President Dalia Grybauskaite. She did not rule out a possibility of returning to mandatory military service in the future, should the need arise, informs LETA/ELTA.

"Everything is subject to funding. As you know, the defence budget is projected to be increased, as well as increases in the number of troops are planned," president told reporters who asked when Lithuania is going to increase the number of troops.

When asked about the possibility of returning to mandatory military service, the president suggested thinking about the defensibility needs.

Today, Grybauskaite says, Lithuania has professional army, volunteers and reserve at its disposal. According to her, these resources are sufficient for the time being.
