Harmony submits to Saeima petition against sale of Citadele, signed by 10,300 citizens

BC, Riga, 30.09.2014.Print version
Today, Harmony submitted to Saeima a petition claiming that the sale of the Citadele bank be halted; the petition has been signed by more than 10,300 citizens, informs LETA.

Harmony leader Nils Usakovs told the press representatives that Harmony Center MPs will repeatedly urge Saeima to vote against the selling of Citadele. Saeima already turned the proposal down several times before.

Usakovs also stressed that this initiative demonstrated "prominent pressure from the public", as the non-transparency of the sale process, as well as the inadequately low price are unacceptable.

The petition was initiated on the online petition platform Manabalss.lv on September 19.

LETA already reported that the author of the petition was Vjaceslavs Stepanenko (Honor to Serve Riga).

As reported, on September 16, the government decided that Citadele shares would be sold to the U.S. fund Ripplewood Holdings. Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma (Unity) has refused to reveal detailed information about the bank's sale process.
