BC, Riga, 29.09.2014.Print version
Yesterday, about 300 people gathered for a rally organized by the Harmony political party at the Dome Square to protest against the sale of Citadele bank, LETA observed.

The majority of people had gathered before the rally started. After the official start at 1 p.m., about 100 members of the labor union "LABA", led by Harmony's MP candidate Raimonds Gailis, joined in to the sound of drums and whistles.

The protesters were holding posters with slogans such as: "Strength Lies With The Working People!", "Unity = Corruption", and "For Traditional Family Values!"

About 20 minutes after the start of the event, more posters joined the crowd, with more posters: "Zakis, Prison Is Waiting For You!", "Vote For Unity – Unity Will Steal More!", "Unity Steals From Teachers, Nurses, And Police Officers!", and suchlike.

Several Harmony members – Ivars Zarins, Andrejs Mamikins, Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs – gave more than one speech during the rally. The speakers protested against the current government, and especially against Unity. They expressed a belief that changes are needed in the politics of Latvia.

During the rally, Harmony's youth members handed out balloons and party brochures to the participants of the event.

The event passed without any incidents, observed by significant number of police officers.
