Latvian Saeima turns Nationalists’ repeat proposal to suspend issuing residence permits to Russians

Print versionToday Saeima turned down amendments to the Immigration Law repeatedly proposed by All for Latvia! - For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK (VL-TB/LNNK), stipulating that in order to prevent threat to national security, the government must suspend issuing residence permits to Russian citizens, informs LETA.

VL-TB/LNNK believes that a person who, according to the Immigration Law, acquires a residence permit in Latvia, at the same time obtains a certain economic influence over the country, and a chance to affect the current political and social processes in Latvia, as well as the opportunity to influence the circulation of public information.
Saeima rejected a similar motion by VL-TB/LNNK one week ago.
