EU to add Donbass militants on list of terrorists and prohibit Russia from hosting international sports events

Print versionThe European Union (EU) is pondering an option to deem the eastern Ukrainian "Lugansk People's Republic" and "Donetsk People's Republic" as terrorist organizations, as well as strip Russia of its opportunity to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup, reports LETA, referring to the German magazine "Bild".

According to transcriptions of EU envoys published by "Bild", Russia most likely will be prohibited from hosting a list of high-level international sports events, including the Sochi F-1 World Championships scheduled for October, as well as the 2015 Swimming World Championships, and 2016 World Hockey Championship.
Brussels is yet to consult the responsible sports federations about the cancellation of international competitions in Russia.
The decision on the new round of sanctions against Russia, will be made on September 23.
