Latvian government allots EUR 54,000 to ministries to cover participation fee in OECD

The government of Latvia decided to allot a total of EUR 54,000 from emergency funds of the state budget to the Finance Ministry and Foreign Ministry to cover the annual participation fee in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) committees, reports LETA.

The Finance Ministry received EUR 43,200 to cover its participation fee in the OECD Committee on Consumer Policy, the OECD Committee on Industry, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the OECD Committee on Statistics and Statistical Policy, and the OECD Tourism Committee for 2014. Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry received EUR 10,800 to cover its participation fee in the OECD Trade Committee.

 

The annual fee will have to be paid next year as well.

 

In order to maintain the Foreign Ministry in the OECD for the next three years, the ministry requires EUR 1,826,394.

 

Accession to the OECD is Latvia's priority in regard to foreign policy. It is said that Latvia could join the organization by the end of 2015.
