During the meeting with Ivars Godmanis, Valdis Birkavs, Maris Gailis, Vilis Kristopans, Aigars Kalvitis, President received and discussed the former prime ministers' vision of how to aid Latvian food production companies and reduce the impact of Russia's import ban. They also discussed matters concerning state level support to the local producers and processors, the facilitation of general product and service sales, and the increase of national income of the country, as well as the elimination of African swine fever and preservation of the industry.

In order to reduce the impact of Russia's food embargo on the milk industry, the meeting's participants drew attention toward the necessity to implement emergency market interventions and export subsidies on a EU level. Such an approach would be applicable on meat and grain also. At the same time, the EU should nullify fines for exceeding milk quotas for Latvian dairy producers, as the next potential round of sanctions could damage Latvia's national economy at least ten times more than presently.

Former prime ministers also advocate the reduction of VAT on food from 21% to 12%.

At the end of the meeting, the president and the ex-PMs agreed to continue exchanging information and meet again in September.
