Former Health Minister and former head of the Infectology Center of Latvia, currently Riga City Council member Baiba Rozentale (Harmony Center), who will also run in the Saeima elections from Harmony's ticket, says she is ready to assume the health minister's post after the elections, reports LETA.

Rozentale said in an interview with the LNT show "900 sekundes" that if Harmony nominated her for the health minister after the Saeima elections, she would be ready to return as the health minister.

"I doubt that Prime Minister should be standing in for the health minister, instead she should assign to some other government minister who has less work to do, especially at a time when matters concerning next year's state budget are being discussed," Rozentale said.

When asked which of the current ministers should stand in for the health minister, Rozentale said that it could be the justice minister.

"Firmas.lv" reported that on June 26, Rozentale became a board member of Riga municipality's "Riga 2nd Hospital".

Previous reports indicate that during the crisis in 2009, Rozentale, as the health minister, proposed Riga City Council to shut down Riga 1st Hospital and Riga 2nd Hospital.

Former Riga City Council's Social Affairs Committee Chairman Leonids Kurdjumovs (Harmony Center) said back then that Rozentale's proposal was ill-judged and detrimental to residents of Riga and the availability of health services in Riga.
