Ambassador Lauri Bambus said the relationship between Estonia and the Sultanate of Oman has become much more active in recent years. “The agreement signed today is one of the signs that this is true, as is the creation of a group of friends of Oman in Estonia’s parliament, the Riigikogu,” Bambus said. Also, there is a series of bilateral agreements currently in preparation that would make communication between the two counties even closer. “We hope that we will be able to sign an investment protection agreement and double taxation avoidance agreement soon,” he noted.

The Estonian ambassador added that trans-national cooperation in the field of IT has gotten off to a good start and both sides have an interest in increasing contacts in this area. Estonia’s largest software development company Nortal has been active in Oman for many years now. Cooperation has also been launched between Estonian and Omani ICT experts in developing e-government services required for Omani business registration,” he explained.

Ambassador Bambus also noted that Estonia is interested in finding a candidate to be its honorary consul in Oman. “We hope to soon succeed in finding a suitable candidate,” he said.

At their meeting, the ambassadors also discussed supporting each other's candidacies in international organizations. Internationally important topical issues were also discussed, including the situation in Ukraine and Syria.
