If the ex-Prime Minister of Latvia Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity) will be nominated to become European commissioner, he could acquire a high position, says Jean-Claude Juncker, former Prime Minister of Luxembourg and European People’s Party’s (EPP) European Commission’s (EC) presidential candidate, informs LETA.

When asked about Dombrovskis' post, in case the European Parliament elections are successful and Juncker becomes the EC President, he replied: "Alongside me." Answering the question whether it means a vice-president position for Dombrovskis, Juncker explained that for the moment he is not in a position to discuss posts.

At the same time he said that he will be pleased to work together with such a high-level politician like Dombrovskis, in case he is nominated for the European commissioner post. Juncker also added that Dombrovskis may receive an important high-ranking position.

Dombrovskis said that the European Parliament elections have to take place first and only then he will be able to discuss these matters.

Juncker is considered to be the main candidate for EC President, albeit, stiff competition with the Social Democrat and the current EP President Martin Schulz awaits him.
