Latvia establishes diplomatic relations with East Timor

Print versionConcluding his visit at the UN General Assembly's 68th session in New York yesterday, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics met with the Foreign and Cooperation Minister of East Timor Jose Luis Guterres, during which the two sides signed a communique on the establishments of diplomatic relations.

As LETA was informed by the Foreign Ministry, both ministers expressed satisfaction on the establishments of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which will help promote the development of bilateral relations. The two sides mentioned cooperation within international organizations as the first step in this cooperation.
During the meeting, the two ministers discussed possibilities in developing bilateral economic relations, mentioning such sectors as IT, telecommunications and chemicals as possible cooperation areas.
Rinkevics also pointed out to the potential in education cooperation between the two countries.
