During the first meeting of the new Jurmala City Council today, Gatis Truksnis (Union of Greens and Farmers) was elected the city's new mayor, LETA found out from the Jurmala City Council, writes LETA.

Truksnis was the only candidate nominated for the post, with 11 out of 14 Jurmala City Council members supporting him. Three city council members voted in from Harmony Center abstained in the vote.

Truksnis served as Jurmala mayor during the previous city council, but was ousted this past April, just two months before the local government elections.

The Greens/Farmers took 35.85% of the vote in the seaside resort for 7 council seats.

For You, Jurmala scored 8.68%, with two candidates voted in – Arnis Abelite and Martins Stulpins. The two parties will form a majority coalition, with Truksnis at the helm.
