Interior Ministry requests LVL 6.3 mln for police officers, firefighters and border guards in 2014

BC, Riga, 19.06.2013.Print version
To ensure proper social guarantees and healthcare services for police officers, firefighters and border guards, the Interior Ministry has requested an additional LVL 6.3 million in budget 2014, informs LETA.

The Interior Ministry currently prioritizes ensuring salaries and social guarantees based on equal principles, informs the interior minister's adviser Daiga Holma.

The public demands better results from the State Police, the State Fire and Rescue Service and other services, but the state remains incapable of ensuring decent work conditions and salaries to prevent people from quitting and to attract new personnel. The lack of qualified human resources is one of the main problems in the system of internal affairs, admits Interior Minister Rihards Kozlovskis (Reform Party).

According to Kozlovskis, restoring the employee motivation system is his priority for 2014. It is unacceptable that security and order ride on enthusiasm and belief in promises about decent salaries and social guarantees, points out the minister.
