President Dalia Grybauskaite said that a trip to Kazakhstan by business-class chartered plane of Minister of Economy Birute Vesaite is directly linked with entrepreneurs and this raises doubts over the transparency of minister's work. However, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius defends the minister, informs LETA/ELTA.

The PM said in an interview on the radio Laisvoji Banga, that Vesaite has discussed this question with officials of the ministry asking whether this trip does not impose the conflict of public and private interests but they did not see any possible conflicts.

Commenting on the recently increased criticism towards the minister, Butkevicius says that the fight against Vesaite started when she began restructuring the heating system and took the initiative to redistribute around LTL 600 million (EUR 173 million) which otherwise would have been returned to the EU. Vesaite also started audit of a few state-owned companies.

"It is best for ministers do nothing and remain silent then they will not be blamed", said Butkevicius.
