The applicable sentence is a fine of up to LVL 150 for private individuals and up to LVL 800 for legal entities.
The situation arose at the beginning of February after a reporter spotted a stack of "Tava Riga" (Your Riga) booklets, published by Harmony Center to popularize the party, on a table in a room at the Riga City Council where the local government's press conferences are usually held. The reporter informed the State Police.
Mayor Nils Usakovs explained then that it was just an accident, and that the booklets were left there and forgotten on the weekend after the restrictions on election campaigning came into force.
He also said then that he would pay the fine with his own money if the Riga City Council or Harmony Center are found guilty by the court.
Today, Usakovs confirmed that he would keep his promise and pay the fine himself, LETA learned from the Riga City Council.
Under the regulations on election campaigning, no political campaigning or advertisements are permitted on local government premises.
