Latvian Constitutional Protection Bureau: attention must be paid to Russia's new foreign policy concept

Print versionAfter a Saeima National Security Committee meeting today, outgoing Constitutional Protection Bureau director Janis Kazocins told members of the press that Latvia must pay attention to Russia's new foreign policy concept of increasing its influence by using ''soft power'', informs LETA.

''We must take into account that Russia will continue to attempt to increase its influence in the Baltics, and especially in Latvia,'' Kazocins accented.
Meanwhile, the next head of the Constitutional Protection Bureau Janis Maizitis told members of the press that he does not intend to change the good things that have been done within the bureau. ''A good foundation has been laid,'' Maizitis said.
Maizitis will begin his duties as the head of the Constitutional Protection Bureau on May 2.
As reported, Maizitis, former prosecutor general, was appointed the next Constitutional Protection Bureau chief by the parliament on March 14.
