Number of prisoners in Estonia fell in 2012

Print versionAccording to the Ministry of Justice, there were a total of 3,286 prisoners in Estonia and more than 6,000 persons were on probation supervision, writes LETA/Postimees Online.

While in the beginning of 2012, there were 3,400 prisoners and 7,224 were subjected to probation supervision, at the end of the year the relevant numbers were 3,286 and 6,766.
The number of positions in the prison service fell by more than 70, mostly due to the prison departments that were closed down.
