Vilnius deputy mayor suspected of taking large bribe

Vilnius Deputy Mayor Romas Adomavicius might have taken a LTL 30,000 (EUR 8,700) bribe.

Vilnius Department of the Special Investigation Service (STT) has launched a pre-trial investigation, writes LETA/ELTA.

 

Available data shows that the bribe was taken for a promise to influence staff of a Vilnius municipal company so that they would make a favourable decision in a public tender worth LTL 8 million (EUR 2.3 million).

 

Under the Criminal Code of Lithuania, from July 5 of 2011 such actions are considered a serious crime which carries a sentence from 2 to 8 years imprisonment.

 

The investigation is carried out by prosecutors of Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Department at Vilnius Regional Prosecutor's Office.
