''I am not worried that the Latvian language referendum will have any political influence on Estonia,'' Paet said.

The Estonian foreign minister said that the upcoming referendum is Latvia's internal affair, whilst at the same time emphasizing that there are not many countries in Europe with more than one official languages, informs LETA.

''For example, despite having multi-ethnic communities, Russia and Germany only have one official language. This is important when taking into account Latvia, as it is the only country in the world which can look after the Latvian language and culture,'' Paet said.

The Estonian foreign minister also said that the Russian speaking community in his country also understand that it is important to know Estonian, as it gives them an advantage in their studies, as well as in the job market.

''Most of Estonia's residents understand that Estonia is the only country in the world where we can retain our language,'' Paet added.

As reported, Paet is currently on an official visit to Latvia.
