1,064 people were included in Latvia's list of personae non grata in 2010, Latvian State Television's (LTV) "Panorama" reported yesterday. Most of them have been blacklisted due to violations of residence laws, residence permit terms or for working illegally in Latvia.

In total, there are 5,000 people on Latvia's list of personae non grata, however, this number constantly changes, reported "Panorama".

The list also includes people whose presence in Latvia "is not preferable" – people who pose threat to Latvia, Interior Minister Linda Murniece (Unity) said yesterday after a meeting with Latvian President Valdis Zatlers, writes LETA.

Murniece said that former Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov's desire to move to Latvia is very surprising.

The interior minister admitted that she previously had received information regarding Luzhkov's private plans in Latvia, and that an inspection on this situation was to be concluded by the responsible authorities by April 20. However, Murniece made the decision to include Luzhkov on Latvia's list of personae non grata right way.

LETA also reported, the "TV3" investigative news show "Neka personiga" reported on January 16 that Luzhkov was considering moving to Latvia permanently. Shortly before the end of 2010, Luzhkov turned to Latvia with an application for a residence permit after investing LVL 200,000 into the share capital of "Rietumu banka".
