Number of hospital beds available for Covid-19 patients increased to 633 in Latvia

Currently, 633 beds are available for the treatment of Covid-19 patients in Latvian hospitals, Minister of Health Ilze Vinkele (For Development) told Latvian Television last night, cites LETA.

She said that services are being re-profiled to accommodate Covid-19 patients. This is done at the expense of scheduled services or daytime inpatient services, the minister reminded.

Extra beds have been created both in hospitals in Riga and in the regions.

The minister revealed that there are also private medical institutions that are ready to help and care for Covid-19 patients.

She admitted that different scenarios for the number of inpatient Covid-19 patients have been modeled - the most optimistic, realistic and worst case scenario. The realistic predicts 500 to 600 hospitalized patients.

She also admitted that it is difficult for her to imagine what kind of miracle must happen so that next summer the Song and Dance Festival could be held the same way as before, namely, with thousands of people gathering for hours at the Mezaparks open-air stage.

As reported, according to the National Health Service's data, 66 Covid-19 patients were hospitalized on Tuesday, which is the highest number of hospitalizations in 24 hours yet. Of the 434 Covid-19 patients currently being treated in hospitals, 403 have symptoms of medium severity and 31 have severe symptoms.
