Due to the increase in the coronavirus infection rate in Estonia, new regulations will start to apply in travel from Estonia to Finland starting from Monday, Sept. 28, the Estonian Foreign Ministry said, cites LETA/BNS.

The government of Finland decided on Thursday that it will be possible starting Monday to enter Finland only for the purpose of returning, employment, transit, or for an urgent reason. It will be no longer possible to enter the country for the purpose of tourism, the Estonian ministry said.

The restrictions will start to apply also to arrivals from Germany, Iceland, Norway, Slovakia and Sweden. It will continue to be possible to cross Finland's land border with Norway and Sweden  without becoming subject to the quarantine requirement.

The self-isolation requirement will not apply to the people who have a job in Finland. For the rest, who are also entitled to enter Finland, self-isolation for 14 days is recommended.

Starting from Oct. 1, self-isolation will not be required if the trip lasts less than three days and the person can produce proof of the negative result of a coronavirus test received within the past 72 hours. If the trip lasts longer than three days, a repeat test has to be taken after the expiry of that period and self-isolation applied until the result of the repeat test is received.

A face mask must be worn in Finland in public indoor spaces and in public transport, when awaiting a test result, when heading to self-isolation, and after arriving in Finland from a country with a high infection rate.
