The State Police reveal that the lawyer was murdered overnight. Criminal proceedings have been initiated in connection with the incident. At present, large police resources are being involved in the investigation, and operational and investigative activities are being carried out. Several versions of what happened are being investigated.

In the interests of the investigation, the State Police will not provide further information at this time.

Martins Kriekis, a lawyer previously appointed with Rebenoks on the board of the Olainfarm pharmaceutical company, who met with Rebenoks on Saturday, also told LETA that Rebenoks has been murdered. "I can confirm that it was a murder, that it took place overnight, and that it took place through physical force," Kriekis said.

He also believes that it was a political assassination and that those who ordered the hit are involved on issues of the mandatory procurement component.

Kriekis said that Rebenoks had visited him on Saturday night and left home late at night. "So what we're seeing is that I don't believe it's a robbery murder. It's a murder committed with a intent," said Kriekis.

The State Police are currently considering two versions of the murder of attorney Pavels Rebenoks, State Police spokeswoman Gita Gzibovska told LETA.

One version is that the murder is related to a robbery, and the other is related to his professional activities. However, the police do not specify which professional activity, namely his activities as a lawyer, business or political activities.

According to information obtained by LETA, the attorney was killed in his home and the criminals also robbed the home.

Criminal Proceedings have been initiated under Section 117 of the Criminal Law - for murder, if it is related to robbery.

There is also one victim in this murder case. Police did not comment on whether this person's testimony was useful for the investigation and what injuries he or she has suffered.

A business partner by the name of Ingus Balandins was injured during the murder of attorney Pavels Rebenoks, the attorney's colleague Martins Kriekis confirmed to LETA. 

According to Kriekis, Balandins has suffered serious injuries.
