Vaskevics: Assassination attempt planned against me

Alla Petrova, BC, Riga, 08.05.2008.Print version
Today, the head of the State Revenue Service's Customs Criminal Administration Vladimirs Vaskevics plans to turn to the Prosecutor General's Office to find out who has been following him and why, as the newspaper Telegraf reports today.

Vladimirs Vaskevics.

The newspaper informs that video material has been placed on several Internet websites, showing Vaskevics getting into a Mercedes, owned by his ex-wife Inara Vilkaste.

The official believes that his life is endangered, as well as his family's. He reckons that the people tailing him are the same ones, who organized the bombing of his car in 2007.

As reported, on May 21, 2007, a bomb went off when Vaskevics was standing next to his Subaru Impreza, parked at the Revenue Service's building on Eksporta Street in Riga. Vaskevics exited the building but did not get into the car right away as he met a colleague and started talking to him. Then the blast occurred.

Vaskevics was rushed to the hospital where he underwent several operations on his leg.

Vaskevics points out to the newspaper that most probably he has been spied for a longer period of time already, as he only uses Vilkaste's car on rare occasions.

In Vaskevics' opinion, the video could be a sign from the persons, who organized the first assassination attempt against him.
