BC, Vilnius, 22.11.2017.Print version
Lithuania's parliament on November 21st adopted the president-proposed bill on tighter penalties for tax evasion. Initiated by President Dalia Grybauskaite, were approved with 66 votes in support, one against and 20 abstentions, informs LETA/BNS.
Persons submitting false data on his income, profits, assets, etc. with the
goal of avoiding more than 3,800 euros would be imposed a fine or sent to
prison for up to four years. Currently, the maximum jail term is three years.
The Penal code would also stipulate an exclusive stricter penalty of up to
eight years in prison for attempts to avoid more than 28,500 euros or acting in
an organized plot.
In the argumentation of the amendments, the President's Office said tax
crimes equal property fraud in terms of the degree of threat and the scope of
damages caused to the state, while the penalties are considerably smaller.
