The cooperation memorandum provides for sharing information and experience in order to increase the efficiency of courts, training judges and law experts, promoting development of e-judiciary, mediation, probation and the penitentiary system.

“Today, we are opening a new page in judicial cooperation between Latvia and Azerbaijan,” Rasnacs said after signing the accord. The Latvian justice minister indicated that bilateral relations between the two countries are significant in the context of the EU’s Eastern Partnership, which Latvia had defined as its priority for its presidency of the Council of the EU. “Latvia will now be able to share its judicial reform experience also with Azerbaijan,” Rasnacs said.

Azerbaijan’s justice minister spoke appreciatively of the justice ministries’ existing cooperation and voiced confidence that the agreement between the ministries will bring this cooperation to a new level.

The Azerbaijani delegation currently visiting Latvia is also scheduled to meet with Mihails Papsujevics, the head of the State Probation Service, and Ilona Spure, the head of the Prison Administration.

During his visit to the Latvian Supreme Court, Mammadov will meet with the court’s chairman Ivars Bickovics and other officials.
