The chairman of the Riigikogu foreign affairs committee, Marko Mihkelson, and the head of the foreign affairs committee of the lower house of the parliament of Japan, Norio Mitsuya, during their meeting on July 19th spoke about cooperation between the two countries, reports LETA/BNS.

"Over the years a very good and businesslike relationship has evolved between the countries. Hopefully the free trade treaty with Japan that is about to be completed soon will help provide new conditions also to our entrepreneurs for increasing export to Japan," Mihkelson said on social media.

Mitsuya hailed Estonia as the president of the EU Council and observed that Japan has many a thing to learn from the developments in the digital field in Estonia, spokespeople for the Estonian parliament said.

The parties focused on the recent dynamic developments in the international security situation. Estonia observes with great attention the developments related to the missile tests carried out by North Korea, which are posing a threat not only to the neighbors of North Korea but to the whole international community.

Mihkelson said that developments endangering global stability and peace require unity from countries sharing similar values and efforts to ensure abidance by international law.

Mihkelson and Mitsuya emphasized that despite the very good relations between the two countries, it is important to intensify cooperation between members of the parliaments of Estonia and Japan.

The record collection of Norio Mitsuya, a person taking great interest in classical music and a fan of Paavo Jarvi, from today features also an album by Arvo Part, Mihkelson added.
