A new police station opened in Riga's Bolderaja neighborhood at 33A Sturmanu Street on July 5th, the Riga City Council informed LETA.

Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs (Harmony), Deputy Mayor Andris Ameriks (Honor to Serve Riga), State Police Chief Ints Kuzis and Riga Municipal Police Chief Juris Lukass participated in the opening ceremony.

Construction of the new police station was commissioned by the Riga City Council's Property Department. The building was constructed by LNK Industries Partnership for a little over EUR 500,000, without value added tax.

The new police station is a one-story building 513 square meters in area. There are forty rooms at the police station, most of which are for police officers, there also are two holding cells, an interrogation room, boiler room, server room, and showers. There are parking spaces for 25 automobiles at the police station.

Kuzis said he was pleased at successful cooperation with the Riga City Council, during which police stations in Kengarags neighborhood and Kurzeme and Latgale districts of Riga were renovated. The new police station in Bolderaja is a modern facility that meets all the European Union requirements.

Ameriks said in turn that the Riga City Council's cooperation with the Interior Ministry would continue, and two police stations would now be reconstructed in Riga's Sarkandaugava and Plavnieki neighborhoods.
