On the 30th November Latvian mass media published information that the film by the Polish director Andrzej Tarkowski-Kiliszewski “Attempt on the State. Inconvenient Vashkevich” which is based on the book by the entrepreneur Inara Vilkaste is deemed to be plagiarism. The Director of the documentary immediately submitted an application to the Prosecutor’s Office of Warsaw.

During the process of production of the film a hard disk with recorded interviews and produced parts of the film was stolen from the director A. Tarkowski-Kiliszewski. In Latvia, prior to the official presentation of the documentary “Attempt on the State. Inconvenient Vashkevich” editorial offices of mass media received a letter discrediting and compromising the project and aimed at  appropriating the author’s rights.

“Not everybody who participated in the production of the film is authorised to refer to himself as an author. The goal of the film is to present the case of violation of human rights in Latvia to the whole world” – the author Tarkowski-Kiliszewski emphasises.

Recently information was sent to the mass media stating that the author’s rights were held by a certain person Vitalij Smolin.

“These are unfair innuendos, or even attacks. I am now continuously receiving threats! Therefore I have turned to the Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw by submitting an application there. It is obvious that this film is like a splinter in the eye! This proves once again that everything I have said is pure truth”, -- the director of the project “Attempt on the State” Tarkowski-Kiliszewski comments the latest activities in this regard.

On the basis of evidence and testimonies, the author of the film presents events having taken place in Latvia during last fifteen years in quite a detail. The film tells spectators that there is a criminal organisation founded by particular corrupted politicians and influential staff members of special services and directly responsible for terrorism acts, murders, kidnapping of people and banditism.

Even prior to its official premiere the film was appreciated by critics both in Europe and America. The film has received main prizes in the category of documentaries in Europe at the film festival “ТМС LondonFilm Festival” аnd also at the international film festival “Тhe International Indie Gathering” in Cleveland, USA, etc.

The main character of the film and insider – Vladimir Vashkevich – the former Head of the Customs Authority and the Deputy General Director of the State Revenue Service of Latvia. Maybe, this is just a coincidence, however, threats to the author of the project, the Polish director Tarkowski-Kiliszewski, started immediately after Austria rejected the request by Latvia for extradition of Vladimir Vashkevich.
