BC, Riga, 16.06.2016.Print version
Latvian Saeima today voted on Anda Caksa, the head of Children's Clinical University Hospital, as Latvia's next health minister, informs LETA.

The decision was made with 78 votes to three, with four abstentions.

The Union of Greens and Farmers decided to nominate Caksa after Guntis Belevics resigned from the position of the health minister.

Running for the position, Caksa said she would focus her attention on cancer patients, as well as maternal and child health. She indicated that the health sector's priorities have been defined in the government's action plan.

Asked about meeting the deadline for completing work on the new healthcare financing system, Caksa admitted that some deadlines will have to be revised.

Asked what she intends to do differently from former health minister Guntis Belevics, Caksa said that she would "invite the whole sector to the table" to discuss problems and ensure very clear communication on all issues on the agenda.

Caksa graduated from the Latvian Medical Academy in 1999. In 2007 she obtained a Master’s degree in business administration.

She has worked as the board chairwoman of Children's Clinical University Hospital since 2011. In February 2014 she was appointed board member of Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital, but stepped down in December 2015.

According to public reports, Caksa also worked as a psychotherapist in Dr.Janis Giilis’ private clinic.
