The parliament leaders agreed that the refugee crisis represents a big challenge to European countries and observed that it has triggered in both Estonia and Bulgaria a debate on further integration of the European Union and cooperation between European countries, spokespeople for the Riigikogu said.

"European countries have to cooperate and jointly search for solutions to solve the refugee crisis," Nestor said.

The war in Ukraine and the EU's sanctions against Russia were also under discussion.

Nestor gave Tsacheva an overview of e-solutions used in the Riigikogu and in governance in general, singling out online tax returns and digital prescriptions as examples of e-solutions used in Estonian society.

The speakers also talked about EU presidency. Bulgaria will succeed Estonia as the bloc's presiding country in the second half of 2018.

The meeting was attended by member of the Estonia-Bulgaria parliamentary group Keit Pentus-Rosimannus.

Deputy Speaker Juri Ratas also had a meeting with Tsacheva on Monday. Present were members of the Estonia-Bulgaria parliamentary group Anneli Ott, Kalvi Kova, Uno Kaskpeit and Andre Sepp.

On Sunday, the chairman of the standing European Union Affairs Committee Kalle Palling met with Tsacheva.
