Estonia doesn't support automatic distribution of refugees in Europe
"In Estonia's estimation, crisis measures should be separate from the usual functioning of the Dublin system and the Council of the European Union should have the final say in deciding the content of such measures and enforcing these, therefore Estonia does not support the automatic distribution system," spokespeople for the government said on Thursday.
At the same time, Estonia supports the efforts of the European Commission for improving the functioning of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS). Several proposals made by the European Commission, like changing procedure deadlines, exceptions for minors without guardians, harmonization of integration activities, etc., are appropriate and Estonia can support these.
The Commission on May 4 introduced proposals to reform CEAS, according to which refugees would be distributed between the countries that are not under massive migration pressure.
