"I am convinced that Eiki would be the best president for Estonia. He has longtime political experience from both the Riigikogu and the government," the party's chairman Jevgeni Ossinovski said in a press release.

Ossinovski said that in all of his roles Nestor has been a convinced champion of human values and a friendly society. Also in his present job as speaker of the Riigikogu Nestor has defended the right of every person in Estonia to freedom, he added.

"The president does not have to stand with his face turned toward the people because the president must look in the same direction as the people. As president I will act guided by the principle that the Estonian state belongs to all our people," Nestor said. 

Nestor is about to make a political statement at a convention of the party in Johvi on June 4.
