Information centers for immigrants to be set up in Riga, Liepaja, Daugavpils, Cesis and Jelgava
The Culture Ministry has signed an agreement with Shelter Safe House on coordination of services and setting up information centers for immigrants. The project commenced on May 19th and will continue until the end of 2017.
Since 2007, Shelter Safe House team includes professionals for work with third-country nationals who legally arrive in Latvia – as a result of family reunion, for studies, work, or other legal immigration purpose, as well as third-country citizens who come to seek asylum in Latvia.
According to Shelter Safe House head Sandrs Zalcmane, the organization appreciates the opportunity. "The program is a new step toward the inclusion of immigrants in Latvian society as services will be provide to all groups of migrants, including to refugees, in Riga and in the four provinces of Latvia," she explained.
About 43% of the cost of the project will cover translation and interpretation from and into Arabic, Kurdish, Persian, Dari, Uzbek and other languages rarely spoken in Latvia. The total cost of the project is EUR 939,994.
