The Estonian government on April 28th endorsed the budgetary strategy for 2017-2020, according to which in the next few years Estonia's UN Security Council campaign would be supported as well as the reconstruction and restoration of the building complex of the Estonian embassy in Moscow, reports LETA/BNS.

"Both of the activities are important for Estonia's reputation as well as security," Foreign Minister Marina Kaljurand was quoted by spokespeople as saying.

Estonia is running for a temporary seat on the United Nations Security Council for 2020-2021. According to Kaljurand the membership would provide Estonia with an opportunity to play a bigger role in solving important international security issues. "It would allow us to discuss the issues concerning Estonia because the UN body treats global security problems and decides the main directions for solving these," Kaljurand said. The government will support Estonia's UN Security Council campaign with two million euros in the next two years.

The government also decided to finance the renovation of Estonia's embassy in Moscow. The building was built in 1903 and was last renovated 34 years ago. "The embassy desperately needs a proper renovation so that the buildings could be fully used, modern and safe," Kaljurand said.

The budgetary strategy is also a basis for drawing up the 2017 state budget.
