During an annual conference of prosecutors on last year's results and work priorities for 2016, Prosecutor General Eriks Kalnmeiers said that there was a 2.1% reduction of crimes registered in Latvia in 2015, informs LETA.

He said that there were 439 less crimes registered in Riga last year when compared to the previous year, while in the Riga Region there was a 6.5% reduction in crimes committed. According to Kalnmeiers, this is a considerable reduction.

There were 262 less cases of serious crimes committed last year, and the prosecutor general also added that this was also a considerable achievement. He said that serious crimes took 4.1% of the total crimes registered in Latvia last year.

He added that Latvia remains the country with the lowest crime level in the Baltics per 100,000 residents, however, the situation is gradually ''balancing out''.
