Lithuania becoming strategic partner for China

Agreements recently signed between Lithuania and China will make it possible to treat Lithuania as a strategic partner for Beijing in its Silk Road Initiative, Lithuania’s Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius has said, cites LETA/BNS.

“We’ve talked that cooperation within “China plus 16” is gaining momentum and is already bearing the first fruit, in particular through the 40-billion-US dollar investment initiative “One Belt One Road”, Algirdas Butkevicius said in a press release after a meeting with China’s President Xi Jinping and government leaders from Central and Eastern Europe in Beijing.

Agreements between China Merchants Group and the free economic zone of Klaipeda and the port of Klaipeda would help Lithuania become a distribution hub for China’s goods and cargoes in Eastern Europe, he said.

According to Butkevicius, Lithuania and China discover new possibilities for cooperation, which opens the way for Lithuania to export its products to the market of the fastest growing global economy.
