Roivas said at the meeting that the interest of Estonian entrepreneurs in China as a destination market is growing and investors are looked for among Chinese companies for joint development projects, spokespeople for the government said. "We discussed specific cooperation projects, for instance using the Port of Tallinn to transport Chinese goods and Omniva's cooperation with big Chinese companies," Roivas said.

According to Roivas trade and logistics will remain an important part of the Estonian economy. China as the world's biggest exporter is creating a new transport corridor to Europe with its New Silk Road project and values Estonia's geographical position and the experience of its logistics companies. Estonian ports are the most eastward ice-free harbors of the European Union and that enables year-round trade between the East and the West. A good example of cooperation between the two countries' logistics companies is a joint enterprise of Omniva and China's biggest courier company S.F. Express.

The Estonian food industry is one of the sectors most interested in China, Roivas said. "Prime Minister Li gave a clear signal that China is interested in opening its market to Estonian agricultural products," he said. Estonian Minister of Rural Affairs Urmas Kruuse is to visit China in December with Estonian food industry enterprises.

China, which has the world's third biggest oil shale supplies, is interested in using Eesti Energia's most modern oil shale technology as well as in cooperation on third markets, for instance like the joint project of Eesti Energia and big Chinese companies in Jordan.

When speaking about tourism, Roivas said that although the number of Chinese tourists visiting Estonia is growing the fastest, there is still an abundance of growth possibilities. According to Roivas, in the long-term a direct connection between the two countries could be established.
