Straujuma has traveled to Shangha to help open the Latvian-Chinese business ventures seminar, and, in a meeting with Han Dzheng, city supervisor, she thanked him for the opportunity.

Dzheng told Straujuma that Latvia's strategic geographic location makes China's, and specifically Shanghai's interest, even greater. He accented that the fourth leaders' meeting of China and Central and Eastern European countries that will be held in Suzhou city November 24-25 is a significant aspect of the so-called "One Belt, one Road" initiative, connecting these two far away parts of the world.

Straujuma pointed out that Latvia from the very start has supported this initiative that brings Asia closer to Europe and vice versa, creating new opportunities for joint projects in the transport and logistics sectors, with excellent potential seen with Shanghai – one of the world's largest ports, and Latvia – with its ports that remain ice-free.
