The prosecutor's office in Latvia has recognized 263 persons as victims in the Zolitude tragedy case, informs LETA.

There were at least 30 cases where the supermarket's roof collapse could have been prevented, this according to prosecutor Agris Skradailis.

Furthermore, the total compensation claim amounts to EUR 155 million. Several defendants and legal entities have been imposed with confiscation of property (this includes bank accounts, capital shares, real estate).

The case currently involves 144 witnesses, as well as 10 experts.

Nine persons are being accused. The case was forwarded to City of Riga Zemgale District Court on October 9.

As reported, 54 people died and several dozen were injured as a Maxima supermarket in Riga's Zolitude neighborhood collapsed on November 21, 2013.

The Riga supermarket tragedy has become the largest loss of life since the restoration of independence in 1991.
