The State Revenue Service (SRS) filed a request this morning for permission from Saeima to nullify immunity and to penalize Latvian Health Minister Guntis Belevics for failing to include in his tax form a EUR 1 million loan to his son, reports LETA.

Belevics, in explaining himself today, agreed with the assessment from State Revenue (SRS) in his case, adding that he had 'simply forgotten' about the loan to his son.

As reported, SRS is requesting permission from Saeima to penalize Health Minister Guntis Belevics (Greens/Farmers) for failure to submit an official declaration for a loan in the amount of EUR 1 million.

In a letter to the Saeima Mandate, Ethics and Submissions Committee, the SRS explains that the minister has failed to submit a declaration for a loan in the amount of EUR 1 million, according to the committee's chairman, Vitalijs Orlovs (Harmony).

Taking into account that Belevics is also a minister, he would be offered to choose a day when the committee could review this matter, explained Orlovs. It is likely that the matter will be discussed during the September 30 meeting.

According to the Administrative Code, officials who fail to submit a declaration by the deadline, or violate the submission rules, as well as provide untruthful information in the declaration, can be punished with a fine of up to EUR 350.
