Danish businessman sentenced in Liepaja for sex crime

BC, Riga, 04.09.2015.Print version
Right before the recent controversial sentencing in Liepaja of a man and his son to community service for lewd and lascivious behavior with a small girl, another similar case was reviewed in Liepaja against a foreigner – a 46-yearold Danish businessman, informs LETA, according to a story in "Kurzemes vards" newspaper.

The story's reporter is quick to point out that the man – who was handed down a jail sentence for production, release and distribution of pornographic material, has a common name and surname, and is not to be confused with two other Danish businessmen, who live in Latvia (executives at their respective companies – Trelleborg (note: now former), and Medzes Components).

The 46-year-old Jesper Rasmussen was sentenced for criminal activity in the period 2009 to 2011. As predator, he would lure into his confines primarily one certain 3-year-old girl, who was forced to succumb to his perverse conduct. He did not stop there, eventually he utilized the child as a nude model and sex object in pornographic photos where he himself was a – mostly off-camera, partner. The investigation had counted 335 pictures total.

The Liepaja court, after hearing a complete confession and expression of remorse from the accused and feedback from the Prosecutor's office and a subsequent agreement, Rasmussen received three years, six months in prison with a one-year probation afterwards. Confiscation of property – 4,200 shares of the Jesper Rasmussen company, was also handed down by the judge, and – EUR 1,260 cash for the state – to be paid to the victim (Legal counsel for the girl had demanded EUR 20,000 in damages; later agreement was reached on EUR 5,000.).

The culprit has been tried and sentenced to jail three times previously in Denmark.

Lawyer Helena Purvina, representing the victim, said that she does not know what crimes the Dane had committed back home, but did confirm that he is behind bars at this time, and therefore "is unable to be a threat to other children."
