Vejonis urges non-citizens and stateless persons in Latvia to register citizenship

BC, Riga, 29.07.2015.Print version
During a meeting on Tuesday with Romans Alijevs, chairman of the Consultative Council for Minorities, President Raimonds Vejonis urged non-citizens and stateless persons in Latvia to exercise their rights and register their citizenship of Latvia by October 1, 2015, without taking the citizenship tests.

The president said that "first and foremost, Latvia is its people," calling on everyone, who is not yet a citizen of Latvia to become citizens and join those who call Latvia their home.

The Presidential Press Service informed LETA that the right to receive citizenship without the need to take the tests applies to non-citizens and stateless persons, who reside in Latvia, are registered according to the law, and have passed a full Latvian language training course at Latvian comprehensive schools before October 1, 2013. Citizenship can be registered at the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs.

Alijevs, too, encouraged people to use this opportunity, and promised to motivate them via various minority organizations.
