BC, Riga, 21.07.2015.Print version
Tukums Regional Council is planning to extend the state of emergency at Slokenbeka's Dzirnavu Lake until August 3, 2015, as the council's representative Liene Zervena told LETA.

Tukums Regional Council held a meeting today that was also attended by the authorities, companies affected, representatives from the State Environmental Service, and experts who are monitoring the lake and the wastewater treatment facilities there.

Later in the evening yesterday, Tukums Regional Council Chairman Eriks Lukmans gave a press conference to inform the public about the council's decisions.

A criminal case has been opened on drainage of filthy sewage into the lake resulting in annihilation of the fish population there. The situation has stabilized at this time, and Tukuma udens utility is testing the water on a regular basis. It is unclear who is responsible for polluting the lake.
